Wednesday 5th December: Whiteroom, tribute to Eric Clapton's CREAM

Whiteroom are increasingly making a name for themselves in the music world with their Eric Clapton Cream tribute. And, Wicked on Wednesday are delighted to announce that they will be performing live on stage at Chicago Rock Cafe Windsor on Wednesday 5th December 2007.

So, who are Whiteroom?

Clive Gray is lead guitar/vocals and learnt his first chords from his grandmother at the age of 9, but soon followed (and saw live) his teenage idols: Jimi Hendrix, Jimmi Page, Rory Gallagher, and Eric Clapton. After studying music in Germany, he played with Carolyne Mas ('sittin' in the dark') Johny Tame ('Sand in my shoes'), and produced various bands such as Carolyne Mas, The Brandos, Dave Goodman etc. Moving from music producer to film producer, he stopped playing professionally. Now working for a charity in the UK, 'Dark Horse' is where he can be loud again under the motto: If we're too loud, you're too old.

Nigel Crosthwaite (drums) started his life in jazz bands which is where he gets his funky syncopated rhythm from. Performing in various function bands for over 30 years including Southern Blues and more recently in The Go Bananas, Nigel has seen it all and got the t-shirt!

Danny Merriman (bass guitar/vocals) fuses together a unique mixture of rock blues and funk in a way that separates him from Mr. Average-Joe bass player and puts him in league with the elite few. Heavily influenced by level 42's Mark King, Danny started playing in his hometown Nottingham with local reggae and funk bands –Juice (‘real love’) the Groove Foundation (‘sooner or later’) and began to develop his awesome bass thump style, similar to the likes of Stanley Clarke, Marcus Miller and, of course, Mark King. A founder member of Notts Christian rock band Freakshow(‘superhero’), and after years of playing the circuit, Danny has become a popular sought after and respected bass player. Recent bands he has played with are the Level 42ers (‘level 42 tribute band’) and the Feel, a Bognor Regis based and well-respected rock band.
The idea for a Cream tribute band, as Danny puts it was, “ I’ve always dreamed about being in a super band, especially one like Cream where each band member gets to really play their instruments well.”

And so after eight drummers and two guitarists, ‘Creme-on!’ was born, the original name for the band. Other close contenders for the name were ‘natural cream’,’ cream again’ and ‘clap-cream’ 'Whiteroom' was the name they ended up with.

All three members are ardent fans of Clapton and the Cream and, unlike the original band, they get on really well together respecting one another’s special talents as they go along

This is an exciting time for these talented musicians as they get better and better all the time, creating a hard act to follow. Welcome to the Whiteroom - and welcome to WOW! at Chicago Rock Cafe on the 5th!!

The show starts at 8pm with a disco through to 1am with the ever-popular Chicago's DJ Gary O'Brien in the hot seat.

Admission is £4 and further details can be found at http://www.wickedonwednesday.com/ or by contacting Chicago Rock Cafe.

Wednesday 28th November: The Micky Kemp Band take to the stage!

The Micky Kemp Band have an almost cult-like following but deserve greater recognition for the undoubted talent that they are.

It is great news, therefore, that they are appearing live on stage at Chicago Rock Cafe, William Street, Windsor on 28th November as part of their Wicked on Wednesday season.

Their fusion of rock, soul and country is a terrific blend of several genres of popular music, but who are they?

Micky Kemp - well, Micky writes the songs, plays rythmn geetar and sings. His devastating good looks and charm (his words, nout ours!) have made him a big hit with the over 70's and under 5's, it seems to have failed miserably on all points between.

He is ably assisted by one of the UK'S great guitarists, Darrell Bath, who sings a bit too and plays lead guitar. A master of understated playing and tone perfection, Dazza loves playing guitar, drinking and british sitcoms, he can be found most evenings watching George and Mildred. Daz can be heard on the SEVERE label

Also making up the numbers, the affectionately named "BASTARD SON OF OZZY OSBOURNE, otherwise known as the mighty Chiv, and yes he is as bad as he looks, a fine man, drummer and driver. The mighty one is a firm favourite with kids and animals.

The task of "cool man of the band" falls firmly at the feet of our enigmatic bass meister Nigel Taylor, a good dude who enjoys drinking nearly as much as Dazza, slightly more than Micky and a fair old bit more than the Mighty Beast they call Chiv, Nigel has played with many of the UK's great artists.

You can sense the fun that this band portray on stage with their first-class stage performances so do take this opportunity to see them for yourself.

The show starts at 8pm with a disco through to 1am with the ever-popular Chicago's DJ Gary O'Brien in the hot seat.

Admission is £4 and further details can be found at http://www.wickedonwednesday.com/ or by contacting Chicago Rock Cafe.

UPDATE

What an outstanding performance live on stage by The Pistols. Numbers were disappointing because of the adverse weather and football on the telly but there were some of the band's dedicated fans, Sex Pistols devotees and Chicago regulars there to enjoy the show.

The guys were terrific both on and off stage, giving a truly professional and entertaining show!

Music Inferno is a five-piece band led by Christine Jolliffe as Madonna.

The ensemble faithfully recreates the music and eras of Madonna’s high profile and successful career. Music Inferno not only performs over 25 of the queen of pops hit songs in their show, but for many of them, they’ve re-invented the songs, or used favourite tour arrangements to make the show exciting, a class above the other tributes.

The show has been engineered into 4 segments over two 1 hour halves. The first section is Material World, 2nd section, 80’s Dress You Up Madonna, 3rd Section, Cowgirl Rock and finally the 4th section is Disco Diva themed. The show is self-contained, with a state of the art sound system and lighting rig that was especially designed for our show.

There are no less than six complete authentic costume changes. Every song is fully choreographed and every attention to detail has been incorporated into the show.

UPDATE
It was a brilliant night at Chicago's Windsor. It got off to a slow start but became busier as the evening progressed. Music Inferno were great and had people dancing at their seats (maybe that's the tradition in Windsor rather than use the dance floor lol). Great evening though with DJ Gary O'Brien working his magic and keeping the crowds entertained through to 1am close of business.

Thanks for the photo Gary:
