Wednesday 13th February: Valentine’s tribute to Elvis at Windsor

Valentine’s tribute to Elvis at Windsor

On Wednesday 13th February, internationally-acclaimed US Elvis tribute artist JACK SMINK, will appear live on stage at Chicago Rock Cafe, Windsor as part of their Wicked On Wednesday season.

Acknowledged as one of the State’s leading Elvis performers, Jack is clear that he does not wish to be recognised as an Elvis look-alike. "Jack explains: I want everyone to know, I am not trying to be Elvis. Every song that I sing and everything I do is a tribute to his memory and his music."
Jack performs right across the US including appearances at Florida’s Disneyworld and is in the UK for a week’s tour of venues over the Valentine’s period to publicise his new release “Just One More Time”.

The song came from a dream that stayed with Jack for many years. “I dreamed that I was in a field, an open field. In this dream I saw the visions written in the words of this song. I woke up with the words “Just One More Time” on my mind.” he remembers.

Then, five years later, he recalled that dream; he met with two members of his band, Mike Hostetler and Denny Mela. Together they put that dream to music. After sending a copy of the song to Ray Walker and Gordon Stoker of the legendary Jordanaires, Elvis’ backing band, they offered to add their special touch—their distinct sound—to this song.

Their contribution completed Jack’s vision for this song. Jack will be performing "Just One More Time" live at Chicago Rock Cafe during his Valentine’s Eve Show.

Admission to this event is £4 before 10pm and £6 after. Jack Smink is supported by popular Chicago's DJ, Gary O'Brien, who will take us through to 1am with a disco. Further details of this event can be found at http://www.wickedonwednesday.com/

Wednesday 30th January: Natalia

NATALIA : Debut single ‘Pretty Like Me’ explodes pop gem onto UK music scene

Pop on the rocks - shaken, stirred and uncontrollably intoxicating! That’s the phenomena of the awesome Natalia, a spirited, spanking fresh talent who literally grabs pop by the scruff of the neck and customises it with her personal expression of rocky/soul. Natalia appears live on stage at Chicago Rock Café on Wednesday 30th January as part of their Wicked on Wednesday season and will feature her debut single, ‘Pretty Like Me’.

‘Pretty Like Me’ (released February 25 2008) is a tongue in cheek look at society’s obsession with image. Featuring Bimbo Jones mixes (Usher, Ciara), it confronts how girls can be bullied for not conforming to an ideal. This is a very bold debut statement from a young Natalia who’s outstanding talent led to peer bullying at school – a primary reason why Natalia is now an ambassador for the young people’s charities, UK Youth and Beat Bullying. The video, directed by award-winning Phil Griffin (Amy Winehouse, Bassment Jaxx, The Feeling), is a portrayal of how young people struggle for acceptance.

Natalia is pop dynamite simply waiting to explode. Produced by Mike Mangini (Joss Stone, Steve Vai, Extreme, Annihilator), ‘Pretty Like Me’ is set to add a new raw-cut dimension to pop that’s got to be heard to be believed. The young starlet has also been kicking it live on stage throughout 2007 as she’s toured with some of the biggest names in the industry, including Girls Aloud, Simon Webb and McFly, as well as performing at Amerie’s star-studded launch party.

Wednesday 16th January: Loose Shoes head for Windsor

Loose shoes head for Windsor

On Wednesday 16th January, a unique band, a Texas-style swing funk and blues band called Loose Shoes, will appear live on stage at Chicago Rock Cafe, Windsor as part of their Wicked On Wednesday season.

Dennis Maroney, lead guitar/vocals/harmonica, is originally from Austin, Texas and played with Loose Shoes, an 8-pc band that included the fabulous Triggermen horn section throughout Texas for 7 years. Dennis has played at one time or another at all of the major clubs in Texas and has opened up for several national touring shows at various outdoor festivals. He has played throughout the U.S. with various groups over his 30 years of playing live shows. When he came to the UK, he formed the UK-version of Loose Shoes and brought together some talented musicians.

Dave Mattey, lead guitar, was the founder member of the seminal Cambridge folk-rockers Zyzygy, and the Mad Professors, an Irish-heavy metal-reggae ceilidh band, still gigging after 35 years to bewildered audiences. Dave worked and recorded in the US in the '80s and played with the reggae band Cool Runnings, a national act. Back in the UK Dave played bass for the Sue Lyn Band and guitar for a variety of blues, soul and big bands.

Richard (Dick) Fancutt, on keyboards, has worked as a session player and has played for various soul, blues and R&B bands over the last 25 years. He is also currently involved with The Purple Project, a highly acclaimed band of professional and ex-pro players (including founder Voyager members Chris Hook and Johnny Marter) dedicated to reproducing the classic rock of Deep Purple. Earlier this year, Dick gigged with Dougie White of Whitesnake fame.

Simon Cole, bass/vocals, has played with several London based bands and toured as a session bass player throughout Europe with various national acts throughout the 70's and 80's. He has played in various outfits during the years including a stint with jazz rockers Amyl Nitrate and the Takeoffs with Peter Lockett (ex The Moody Blues) and Bryson Graham (ex Spooky Tooth/Ten Years After).

Completing this very special line-up, with a musical pedigree to die for, is Jim Lassen on drums. He started playing drums at 16. With various ex-Iron Maiden musicians, Jim co-formed Gibraltar, a London-based heavy rock band. He joined Rhythm Method and played at a number of prestigious venues, including the ‘Orange’ and ‘Garage’ clubs in London. The band was also given airtime on Radio 1 as one of the best, unsigned bands. Jim went on to do a stint with the Pepperhorns, a Latin/African band, followed by numerous (last minute) one-off deps including a gig with Simon Le-Bon (Duran Duran), and a gig with Greg Ridley (ex Humble Pie). A man of many talents, Jim also played a gig on a Thames boat with a 20-piece jazz big band.

Admission to this event is £2 before 10pm and £3 after.

The band is supported by popular Chicago's DJ, Gary O'Brien, who will take us through to 1am with a disco.
